Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

MA, Psychotherapist

Most of us want answers and we hope that they will relieve the pain quickly.  I believe that the answers lie in the healing space that creates room for grief, relief, misery and joy.  As I have heard the stories of others I’m convinced that suffering and pain are both an inevitable reality and also necessary in order to live a fulfilling life and relate deeply with one another. Often we assume when we are hurting that there is something wrong with us and we attempt to hide our pain both from ourselves and from others. To create the space for healing we must stay curious about these parts that are hidden. Carl Jung, one of the fathers of psychology, said, “To confront a person with his shadow is to show him his own light. Once one has experienced a few times what it is like to stand judgingly between the opposites, one begins to understand what is meant by the self. Anyone who perceives his shadow and his light simultaneously sees himself from two sides and thus gets in the middle.” As painful and uncomfortable as it can be, befriending the hidden, darker corners of ourselves introduces us to our most authentic, grounded being.

All throughout our life cycle we interact with other humans in relationship. Small psychic abandonments, blows and betrayals- even not intended as such- can mount up and really disrupt our emotional functioning in a profound way.  These interactions ultimately become barriers to experiencing love. As we confront our shadow and name the harm we have experienced we can start to feel relief, we can experience love and acceptance for ourselves and for each other. This is the goal of therapy.

My approach is integrative. It’s rooted in my training in Psychodynamic Theory.  I received my Master’s from the Seattle School of Psychology and Theology in 2012. My best teachers have been my clients and friends who have given me the honor of being with their shadows and most authentic selves.  From my personal experiences I’ve come to know that I am passionate about faith and spirituality, the female voice and experience, community development and racial justice, international relief work, artistic expression and creating beauty, Chinese medicine and how the spaces we live in have a connection to our internal world.

My two little rescue therapy dogs do their work in world as well, and sit with my clients (literally on them) on a daily basis.
