As it turns out, the good place was in the bad place all along.

AMANDA HOWARD

PhD, Psychotherapist

I believe that we can make meaning out of suffering. My goal as a therapist is to provide you with a gentle space to connect with your emotions, change unhelpful patterns of behavior, and gain deeper insight into the thoughts and actions that impact your quality of life. As a queer-identified psychologist, I strive to bring compassion and cultural humility into the therapy space. I believe that mental health providers have a responsibility to enhance the accessibility of affirming and empathic care to all, and I carry this energy into my work.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults. My specialties include trauma/PTSD, grief, child maltreatment, anxiety, school refusal, selective mutism, and parenting/behavioral concerns. I especially enjoy working with individuals who identify with neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ identities. I integrate various modalities to fit the needs of my patients but I often draw from psychodynamic, person-centered, and dyadic developmental (attachment-based) psychotherapy. With children and adolescents, I utilize more structured approaches including trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and parent management training (PMT). With all ages, I often incorporate mindfulness, expressive arts, and psychodramatic techniques into my work.

Sometimes it can feel like you are "shopping" for a good therapist, and I understand the stress and struggle of finding a provider that feels right for your individual needs. I am grateful that you stumbled across me on your journey to getting help and I invite you to reach out if you believe I might be a good fit for you.
